The property borders the nature reserve with a view of both the estuary, and the sea, some 1 kilometer distant. The surroundings are very peaceful and hippos graze often at the entrance of the Lodge during the night. Small game frequently visit the premises and there are always rumours of a leopard in the area.

The self catering units are named after the five feeder rivers of the St Lucia estuary: Mpate-, Nyalazi-, Hluhluwe, Mzinene, Mkuze and Mfolozi. Facilities includes air conditioning, a new swimming pool, Free Wi-Fi wireless internet, additional freezing facilities, DSTV (bring your own smart card and decoder) and a hiking trail that starts from the premises. Units are serviced daily
